Bootlin’s Understanding the Linux Graphics Stack training course is now available as a self-paced, pre-recorded video course on Udemy.
This course has previously been offered as an instructor-led training course. We are now changing its format: it is no longer available as an instructor-led course and is instead offered as a pre-recorded course that you can follow at your own pace.
For now, Understanding the Linux Graphics Stack is the only Bootlin training course available in a self-paced format. All of our other training courses continue to be offered as instructor-led training sessions.
13 hours and 48 minutes of Linux graphics training
The course contains 13 hours and 48 minutes of video, organized into 19 chapters covering the different aspects of the Linux graphics stack:
- Introduction
- Image representation
- Color representation
- Layout and formats
- Pixel drawing
- Pixel operations
- Hardware aspects overview
- Pipelines
- Display devices
- Display interfaces
- Render accelerators
- System integration
- Software stack overview
- Linux kernel: TTY
- Linux kernel: framebuffer device
- Linux kernel: DRM
- Userspace: X Window
- USerspace: Wayland
- Userspace: Mesa3D
The course starts with the fundamentals of image and color representation, pixel operations and graphics hardware, before covering display pipelines, display devices and interfaces, rendering accelerators, and system integration.
It then looks at the Linux graphics stack itself, covering the kernel-side components such as TTY, the framebuffer device and DRM, as well as userspace technologies including X Window, Wayland and Mesa3D.
The course is aimed at engineers who need a detailed understanding of graphics concepts, graphics hardware, and how the graphics stack is organized in Linux, with a particular focus on embedded Linux systems.
Learn at your own pace
The move to a pre-recorded format makes the course available without having to schedule an instructor-led training session.
You can start the course whenever you want and progress at your own pace. The video format also makes it easy to pause, rewind, and revisit individual chapters when needed.
